One question I have from chapters 11 through 13 is that when Huck dresses up like a girl, why does he mess up his name? I just think that his fake name would be the main thing he would be worried about if he is not trying to get caught. For instance, he says, "Sarah Williams." (Twain, 54), when the woman asks what his name was. Later on the woman had noticed he wasn't actually a girl and asked, "What did you say your name was, honey?" He responded with, "M-Mary Williams." (Twain, 57). That was when the woman knew he was faking. Then she had asked, "Honey, I thought you said it was Sarah when you first come in?" He responded with, "Oh, yes'm, I did. Sarah Mary Williams. Sarah's my first name. Some calls me Sarah, some calls me Mary." (Twain, 58) All of this communication back and forth between Huck and the woman just seems odd to me. It feels like Huck would have "memorized" his lines better if he really didn't want to get caught. Also, I don't understand why he didn't just tell her the honest truth after she had found out and promised to keep his secret. Instead he lied again about some farmer that had been taking care of him that treated him bad so he ran away. Especially after she was so nice to him and offered to help and promised she wouldn't tell, I thought that he would have just told her about paps, Jim, and all of it.
I truly only got one take away from these 3 chapters. Mainly, I took away that you can't always get away with a lie. Sometimes it might seem like an amazing plan and that you won't get caught. However, sometimes the plans go wrong and people are smarter than they look. The way Huck got caught in his lie proves this, however, he didn't get caught in his second lie. Although, sometime down the road he might eventually get caught in that lie also because every once in a while lies catch up with you.
I really liked these chapters. It seemed as though Huck was a lot more adventurous in these chapters rather than the others. Like when Huck snuck onto the boat and was practically snooping around and almost watched someone get killed pretty much without getting caught. There were a lot of scenes that had strong imagery for me.
