This was another one of the independent personal projects I did. I wanted to do this because it was close to christmas break and I wanted something christmas oriented. Matter in fact, the first penguin ornament had accidently been dropped on the floor and shattered into pieces by a classmate, but it was okay because I actually like my second one even better! :)
I used the wedge and the ball effect for this piece. Honestly, I really didn't use the wedge in this piece but I used the ball effect a lot especially in the pointing finger part to create the 3D effect. I used a lot of foreshortening in this piece to make it look like the finger was going to pop out of the paper. To add color to my hand, I used ink to create a shadowing effect and give it more enhancement. I liked the ink because there was a lot more control with the shading compared to the coffee coloring. I wanted a little more background imaging so i painted some red and black stripes just to add a little extra to it. I really enjoyed doing this project and I might do it again, but I think I might chose a foot next time.
For my mixed media art project, I chose the word Disease because it has a lot of meaning in my life. I am Type 1 Diabetic, so being diagnosed with this DISEASE has affected my life in many ways. I will be living with it forever, so the word disease had made me accept a lot of parts in my life over the years. First, I chose the dictionary page with this word on it and I started to illustrate what I thought would be the image of my word. I chose to illustrate the deadly disease sign because I thought that symbolized the word best. I used pencil to draw it first and then I finished it with colored pastels to add color. I like the fact that this piece sends a message but yet in a simple way.
I tend to work through the assigned art projects fairly quickly, so to pass by some time, I started making my own personal art projects. I made the colorful carousel painting because I felt like I needed a little more "happy" in my art work. The first project I had done by myself was the charcoal drawing of the path with a needle at the end of it. It was a dark piece I had done that almost a bit frightening to some people. I wanted it to show the pain of needles in my life, me being Diabetic and everything, and I think it portrayed that very well. So, after that, I decided to do a pretty happy painting. Carousels have always made me happy, matter in fact I still ride them whenever I can. I wanted something to controdict my last piece and I think I accomplished that. The last one I did was my girl with a dandalion in the wind. It just makes me feel at piece, with the simplicity of it. I enjoyed drawing this one because of the white usage on the black paper.
I chose a turtle to represent me because turtles have always been a part of my life. I used to go to the lake as a child and I would catch turtles with my cousins and my grandpa. I have always thought of turtles as very peaceful creatures in nature and I just think that if I could be an animal, I would be a turtle. Also, turtles are never rushed and I find that very soothing to think about. It took about 2-3 weeks to create my 3D turtle. I had to cut out pentagons to create the shell, and rectangles and triangles to create the head legs and tail. It was fun to paint and create all together though. I would definitely do another 3D project like this. I wouldn't change anything about my turtle; I love the way it turned lout.
