The process to creating this piece was a lot simpler than I had originally thought it out to be. First, I started with the design of what I wanted to paint. This was an independent project, so there was no design set in stone that I was required to do. It was all up to me!!! I wanted to try something different from what I had originally been doing in my art projects, so I decided on a colorful 80's girl cartoon painting. I drew out my design in pencil first, creating all the detail I wanted to show in this piece. The next hardest part was creating the perfect shades of each acrylic paint I wanted to use to give the perfect tones to her. The skin tone was the hardest! I painted her and then outlined the hairspray "spray" in ink. I actually used the ink paint stuff to get the right texture I was looking for.
I learned two big things while doing this project: the first being that sometimes the color you come up with is a lot lighter looking than the color it ends up being after it is painted with and dried. I learned this by doing the skin color and I had to redo it 3 different times. The second thing I learned was that in art pieces, you do not only have to use just one material. In this piece, I used pencil, paint, and ink and I think it turned out great!
